A few of my favorite links from this week to bring you into the weekend. Happy Friday!
1. The perfect way to serve fruit salad at your next get together : )
3. I so want to make this wooden door mat. So classy looking!
4. A London home with an amazing outdoor space.

Wore: That Seventies Suede Skirt

Can you really go wrong with seventies clothing? I've been researching that era a lot this week for a project and oh my gosh did Jane Birkin have awesome style (you can check out some of her great moments HERE). Please stop me from cutting my bangs like hers because I can NOT pull it off, but I sure want to! Maybe I'll pull out the school picture of my 7th grade self with heavy parted bangs to deter future thoughts...
I'll be listing lots of great new vintage today, and breaking out my sewing machine for design purposes for the first time in months. Its this awesome weather getting me all inspired and stuff. Hope your weekends are fabulous!

Favorite Etsy Finds : Easy Breezy Summer

My parents put their boat in the water this week, which is always the first sign of summer for us. Being out on the clear blue lake with the green landscape surrounding us got me inspired to do a roundup of crisp, easy breezy items from some of my favorite Etsy designers. I could wear that scarf every day! Happy Thursday everyone : )

Morning Affirmations

I have been waking up a lot the past couple weeks in an anxious state of mind. As soon as I open my eyes I start thinking about all the things I need to get done that day, about all the things I didn't get done the day before, and then get frustrated at myself that I didn't wake up earlier to get started. This has happened to me once in awhile when I have let my life get out of balance, most notably one winter when I was managing a busy restaurant. I had just been given a second restaurant to manage out of the blue, and the same day my assistant manager broke his leg in a skiing accident. I spent the next few months just holding it together, and I would wake up in the middle of the night suddenly in a panic with something I forgot to do or felt needed to be done and would have to write it down immediately.
I am nowhere near that now, but needless to say, this is no way to wake up regardless! Like I said a while back in this post, I have been reading a book that promotes positive, "prosperous" thinking as a way to bring the best into your life. One way I am going to start doing this is with a morning affirmation. Probably half of you are out there nodding your head and saying DUH Kristin, we all do this, you are way late to the whole morning game here you dum-dum. But I am giving it a try! There are a TON if ideas for affirmations to choose from online, but my favorite were these from Prolific Living.

8 Affirmations to Say Every Morning before Getting Up

1. I am feeling healthy and strong today.
2. I have all that I need to make this a great day of my life.
3. I have all the information I need to solve any challenges that come up today.
4. I have the knowledge to make smart decisions for myself today.
5. I make the right choices all day using my inner wisdom.
6. I am happy and content with my life.
7. I am patient and calm and greet the day with ease.
8. I am filled with gratitude and kindness for another day on this earth.

I'm going to print them out and put them by my bathroom mirror so I see them first thing every morning. If anyone has had success with these let me know, I am excited to try it out. Hopefully it turns out like THIS haha.

Weekend Recap : A Wedding and A Cloudy Beach Day

This weekend Owen and I attended a wedding of two of his friends from college. It was held at an awesome old barn turned into an event space in Charlotte,VT that is just beautiful and in the middle of all these green fields and farmland. The whole ceremony and the reception were so relaxed and welcoming, which matched the bride and groom's personalities perfectly. It was a blast to catch up with friends, eat delicious food and dance our butts off.
Other than the wedding, I spent the weekend going to see Pitch Perfect 2 (so good, it will knock your socks off! seriously though), garage-saleing in a hunt for vintage, working on the shop, and waitressing one night. We also hit the beach again for a bit with Kelly and her fiance which is becoming a Sunday tradition. Even when its cloudy and you might be a little cold its awesome : ) Hope you all are enjoying your holiday weekend!

TGIF Happy Hour : Champagne Cocktails

I've decided to start a little series on Fridays featuring some of my favorite cocktail recipes I've found around this here interweb. Because, well, Happy Hour is the best! I had a friend over the other night for dinner, and we drank orange mango mimosas and ate guacamole while we were cooking. So. Good. Basically any kind of mimosa variation works for me, they are so refreshing and popping the bottle makes you feel like a celebration is in order. Below I've included a few fun champagne cocktail ideas I want to try this summer, perfect for brunch, happy hour or just any time you are in the mood for something fancy!

P.S. I have found my favorite champagne to be the Barefoot Bubbly Pinot Grigio variety. It's not too expensive, and is much smoother than a lot of others I've tried. If you have found one you like most let me know, I'd love to try it out!

Some of the summery new arrivals added to the shop this week! Check them out HERE if you'd like : )

Lawn Games Roundup

Both my family and Owen's are way into games, and lawn games are some of our favorites. We actually played croquet outside at Thanksgiving this year wearing winter coats and gloves. And we had three cornhole games going at our wedding reception. And if you read my weekend recap you saw our ladderball set. Yep, we love games. With the temperatures rising it really is great to have a few lawn games on hand when you have people over for a barbecue or drinks, because its fun to both play or just sit and watch and chat with everyone. I gathered a few of our favorites here : )
4. croquet (vintage!)

Farmers' Market Tips

During the summer, Owen and I hit up the Burlington farmers' market every Saturday morning. If its nice out we'll bike there, but this weekend the weather was a little back and forth so we just parked and walked around. It is by far the largest farmers' market I have been to, and the organizers do such a great job of choosing vendors with unique products, with a variety of vendors as well so there's not a ton of the same thing. I swear it gets better every year, and this year I've noticed a lot more food options which is great, as we usually time it so we can grab breakfast / early lunch there.
As an avid farmers' marketer ( market-goer?), I figured I'd share some tips from what I've learned over the years, just for fun. Hopefully it inspires you to get out there whenever your town's market is and have fun with it!

Weekend Recap : Restaurants, Ladderball & Family

This weekend was another busy one, but full of awesomeness. My younger brother was in town training for his summer job, and in between shifts at the restaurant we had a lot of fun barbecuing, playing board games and hanging at the beach playing ladderball. Since my sister and her fiance are chiropractors, and just opened their office this week, we all also took a trip over there to check out the space and get adjusted. This girl is feeling much better after a sore shoulder that's been bothering me all week got worked on. If you're in the Burlington area and looking for a great chiropractor, be sure to check out Summit Chiropractic Center.
On Saturday morning we had our first trip of the year to the Burlington farmer's market, a summer tradition of ours (I have a little Farmer's Market post comin' atcha later this week) Since it was UVM graduation this weekend, that place was hopping and I swear the food gets better every year. So fun!
Hope your weekend was great and you are feeling refreshed and ready to go on this beautiful Monday : )

Happy Weekend : Favorite Links

A few of my favorite links from this week to bring you into the weekend. Happy Friday!

1. A new idea for macrame plant holders - copper pipe.
2. A beautifully written story of one mom's Mothers Day.
3. A straightforward guide on how to write a basic business plan.
4. In LOVE with this home, especially the bedroom. That striped duvet is amazing.
5. We've been talking about composting for awhile, and this post really got me motivated.

Wore: Leather Jacket

Today I had lunch with an old high school friend downtown who was in Burlington for work. It was so great to catch up, and really got me thinking about how much time has passed since we graduated, and how much has changed. Sometimes it can feel like I haven't made any progress at all - that I am still the same person. But when I really look back at what I've done, where I've lived and the friends I've made, I remember that I have come a long way from that time, and learned so much. It's funny how time flies folks. Feelin' old and nostalgic today.
P.S. Thrifted these Madewell jeans this weekend and I am in LOVE. Such a great fit.

A Sunset Picnic

Last night Owen and I packed up some dinner, picked up a bottle of wine and biked down to Oak Ledge, a park near our house with great views of Lake Champlain. It was such a beautiful, clear night, a little chilly but warm in the sun. We laid out a blanket and just hung out with our sandwiches and wine watching the bikers and runners go by. You can catch some interesting parts of people's conversations when they walk by you and think you can't hear, hah. We also had quite a show when a woman decided to take a break from biking and put on a full dance routine by herself on the rock stage down the lawn from us. Pretty good moves, too. Oh, Burlington, we love you.

Swimwear Roundup

I've been searching online for a new swimsuit this week, and figured I'd share a few of my favorite swimwear items I've come across. For this season I'm loving crochet details, scalloped edges and darker prints. Isn't that silk caftan amazing? I am ready for a beach day : )

2015 Summer Goals

Today I put together a list of goals I'd like to work on this summer. Nothing mind blowingly different than everyone else's, but there is a much better chance of me sticking to them if I write them down somewhere I can look back at and check in on. I did it for my New Years resolutions and it definitely kept me motivated. Am I the only crazy list maker out there or does this method work for anyone else? I'd love to hear what your goals for this summer are!

"Home"

I took a little road trip to my parents' house in upstate New York for the weekend. It's funny how no matter how settled in to a place you feel, nothing feels quite like coming home to the house you grew up in. Even the smell of the town feels familiar. Lots of walks by the river, beers on the porch and relaxing on the couch is going on over here with the Waters family. I hope your weekend is similar : )

Shop Talk : My Current Book List

As someone working on building her own small business, I am constantly looking for information to help guide me through new situations that come up, to help me better streamline my processes, to help me think outside the box when I get stuck doing something one way, or just to inspire me to keep at it. I figured I would share a few of the resources I am currently reading or have on my list to read next, in case any other small business peeps out there might find it helpful.

Wore : Vintage Floral Cutout Dress

I found this purple floral cutout dress while out and about sourcing for the shop the other day, and bought it with the "noble" intentions to sell it. Once I tried it on, there was no way! Its so light and airy for summer, and the tie back is really different. With the 80 degree weather yesterday I decided it was the perfect time to try it out : ) Owen snapped some pics while we were down at Red Rocks, a great park right near our house. You might remember us hiking there HERE

Lots of new vintage being listed today (once I get some more coffee in me), so check back with me!

Weekend Recap : Bikes Rides & Warm Weather

Flip flop season has begun
This weekend was pretty busy but pretty great. I worked a shift at the restaurant every evening, and spent the days relaxing in the warm weather. There was a quick visit from my mom, yoga and brunch with some girlies, reading my book on the lawn, a little thrifting, and a bike ride to town this morning to grab coffee with Owen. Now I'm energized and ready to get to work on the shop today, mixed in with a little beach time this afternoon since its going to be 80 degrees : ) Happy Monday everyone!
