I Work From Home...And Get Dressed Sometimes

Hey guys! This week seemed to fly by, I can't believe its Friday already. But it is, soooo woot woot! This is the second post in my series of attempting to keep myself stylin' even if its just the post lady who sees me. I am particularly proud of today's ensemble as the sweater and jeans are both thrifted items totaling $12 together. High five for me! Although maybe we should take that away for the awkward poses I can't seem to stop doing. Hah. What can you do...

What are your plans this weekend? On my list is catching up on my favorite blogs with a cup of coffee, a Saturday morning yoga class, finishing up my chair project, putting a second coat of paint on a bedstand I have been working on, and doing another closet clean-out in my feeble attempts towards a more minimal lifestyle. Oh and catching up with some friends and the hubby too ; ) Hope yours is fabulous!

I Work From Home, And Get Dressed Sometimes

Hah! So I decided to start a series on here dedicated to the mucho-casual, borderline-pajamas outfits that have become part of my daily routine since starting to work from home. I'd like to say I get dressed up every day, with super cute outfits, full makeup and straightened hair, but to be honest, most of the time I just don't. I have intentions to change this in the future, but for now I'm thinking this series will motivate me to keep it at least casual-cute, you know? If anyone else works from home and has any suggestions for me, please comment below with your tricks!

Wore : A Day in Vegas with Vegas.com

When Vegas.com asked me to style an outfit inspired by a day in Vegas, I of course had to go vintage. Las Vegas is a place where you can really have fun with your outfit choices, so I decided to go a little more glam than usual.

The resort I chose to inspire my outfit choices was the Mirage. Owen and I stayed here a couple years ago while attending a friend's wedding, and we have been wanting to go back ever since. Between lounging at the pool drinking pina coladas (our main activity, I mean why not?), playing black jack at the casino, watching a dolphin show, grabbing dinner at the many awesome in-resort restaurants or a cocktail at one of the nightclubs, we just didn't want to leave. 

The first look I styled is a night club outfit that would be perfect for a night at 1OAK, a dance club in the Mirage. The blouse is a vintage sequined silk blouse with an asymmetrical zigzag hem. The second look, a vintage 1960's caftan style dress, is so amazing for an afternoon spent lounging by the pool, reading a magazine and sipping a frozen drink.

Wore : Vintage Denim Bows Top

Yesterday I wore my new favorite vintage top I got from The Getup Vintage in Montpelier (if you remember from this post). I am getting excited for fall guys. Falling leaves, boots, soccer, carving pumpkins, sweaters, pumpkin spice lattes, plaid shirts, cute hats, hikes, apple picking, crisp mornings, the new fall T.V. lineup, football, new beginnings. Isn't it the best? What's your favorite part of the autumn season?

On Saturday we picked up our new favorite farmers' market lunch of samosas, sat and listened to a violin player on the lawn and watched little kids run around with face paint on and dogs saying hello to one another. I had woken up early to treasure hunt at a couple estate sales, so I was happy to lay back and watch the action around me. I love New York City and think it hands down has the best people watching, but Burlington definitely comes in at a close second. Afterwards we took a stroll down Church Street with our coffee before heading into work later on. Gotta love Saturday mornings. I wore one of my favorite hot summer day tanks by Lucky Brand (similar one HERE). Lots of packing / shipping / soaking vintage / and photo-taking to be done today. Hope your weekend was great and your Monday is too!

Rainy Day Roundup

Tuesday in Burlington was a super rainy morning followed by a clear, humid afternoon. It made for a cozy day inside working on projects, but once the rain started to slow down Owen and I were getting a little stir crazy in the house and headed out for a walk to the lake. It smelled so great outside with everything freshly wet. It reminded me of waiting out the rain at my summer camp when I was younger, until we could finally get outside to play. We soaked in the sunshine and relaxed by the water for a bit. I wore my favorite Columbia rain jacket I found a couple weeks ago, which I have worn probably ten times since then. Its so lightweight and waterproof, and easy to stuff in a bag and carry around once you don't need it anymore. I love rain gear, especially when it comes in cute colors, so I was inspired to create a little roundup of some of the items on my wishlist, and a jacket that is similar to mine. Hope you enjoy!

Wore: That Seventies Suede Skirt

Can you really go wrong with seventies clothing? I've been researching that era a lot this week for a project and oh my gosh did Jane Birkin have awesome style (you can check out some of her great moments HERE). Please stop me from cutting my bangs like hers because I can NOT pull it off, but I sure want to! Maybe I'll pull out the school picture of my 7th grade self with heavy parted bangs to deter future thoughts...

I'll be listing lots of great new vintage today, and breaking out my sewing machine for design purposes for the first time in months. Its this awesome weather getting me all inspired and stuff. Hope your weekends are fabulous! 

Wore: Leather Jacket

Today I had lunch with an old high school friend downtown who was in Burlington for work. It was so great to catch up, and really got me thinking about how much time has passed since we graduated, and how much has changed. Sometimes it can feel like I haven't made any progress at all - that I am still the same person. But when I really look back at what I've done, where I've lived and the friends I've made, I remember that I have come a long way from that time, and learned so much. It's funny how time flies folks. Feelin' old and nostalgic today.

P.S. Thrifted these Madewell jeans this weekend and I am in LOVE. Such a great fit.

Wore : Vintage Floral Cutout Dress

I found this purple floral cutout dress while out and about sourcing for the shop the other day, and bought it with the "noble" intentions to sell it. Once I tried it on, there was no way! Its so light and airy for summer, and the tie back is really different. With the 80 degree weather yesterday I decided it was the perfect time to try it out : ) Owen snapped some pics while we were down at Red Rocks, a great park right near our house. You might remember us hiking there HERE.

Wore : Teal & Orange

Little things making me happy today:

-refilling my coffee mug little by little throughout the morning to keep it warm as I work

-being able to have the windows open and letting cool spring air into my house

-our freshly raked lawn, ready for lots of outdoor time

-that my chicken fajitas I made last night tasted just like Chili's (yes I like Chili's fajitas) 

-getting photo updates of our new baby niece taking baths or napping. She's already changing so much!

-the little thrill of possibility I get every time I walk into a thrift store

Wore : Vintage Striped Cardigan

Today I read a post by Emily that really struck home with me. She talks about the impact of a positive response in your daily conversation, i.e. answering the "how are you?" question with something other than "super busy" or "so stressed". I've thought about this many times, especially after I go on about something mundane such as how I have so many bills this month and see the other person's eyes glaze over. Everyone has bills, not just me, so why would I think someone else would want to hear about that? Answering with a positive response instead, like how I hit a goal with my sales or had a great run that day turns the conversation in a much better direction, both for me and the other person as well. Not that there's not a place for a little support for others when you're feeling down, but I'm going to work on incorporating more of this in my daily interactions. Anywayssss. Serious stuff guys. I couldn't let go of this vintage striped cardigan I found recently, so I kept it. And now I love it. And want to wear it with everything. So comfy and perfect for spring! Maybe with a floral dress next time?

Wore : Seventies Vibes

Since it snowed last night in Vermont why do I live here again?, I pulled out my faux fur vest I thrifted this winter and paired it with high waisted denim and plaid for some seventies vibes. I've had family in town for the past week, so the house is feeling a little empty right now and we're missing everyone! Trying to get some spring cleaning done this afternoon, list new vintage and take a short run in preparation for the half marathon Saturday, ah! Hope your week is going great : ) 

Wore : Vintage Indian Batik Blouse

In honor of it being the first day of April, I thought a springy flowy blouse was in order. I love this vintage Indian batik blouse because its one part hippie and one part boho - a favorite combo of mine (duh). I've had it for a couple of years and still am just in love with the print. 

Spending the day listing new vintage, shipping out orders and then a hike outside later on. Hope your first day of April is great!

Wore : Embroidered Blouse

I have a soft spot for flowy peasant blouses, especially if they have embroidery on them. Yes, you may get a slight "preggers" look when you stand sideways (example 1- the first photo, yikes), but they are so breezy and feminine feeling, and you can pair them with pants or shorts and get a great bohemian vibe.

Wore : Nineties Flannel

There are lots of ways to incorporate vintage into your wardrobe, but many times what first comes to mind are the vintage "statement pieces". A seventies prom gown, an oversized faux fur coat or a pair of eighties retro heels. While I love every one of those items, I instead consistently come back to the more "casual" vintage clothes I find for my everyday wardrobe. This could be a navy cable-knit sweater, a high-waisted floral skirt or a retro sweatshirt. The easy, every day pieces are what I like the best because it's a more mellow look that still holds that unique feel.

This nineties grunge-y style flannel is a perfect example. It's easy to throw on, and just different enough to set it apart from the flannel you might buy at TJ Maxx. Hope you're having a great day!

Wore : Running Gear

As I had mentioned before in a previous post, I signed up for a half marathon that will be happening in April. A few friends and my sister are doing it with me, so it should be a great time. I have been (mostly) training on schedule, which is the first time I've been running regularly since college (yikes!). It really has been great to feel myself slowly getting back into shape, and to see the extra energy it provides me. As silly as it may seem, whenever I am wearing cute running gear, it gives me a little bit of extra motivation to get moving. So I figured I'd put together a little round-up of cute outfit ideas to keep that motivation flowing ; )

Wore : Lauren Paul Knits

My bestie Lauren, who is a super talented designer and knitter, sent me a birthday package with this awesome knit hat yesterday!! I love the fit, as it stays on easily but is not too tight or constricting like a lot of my other hats feel. The yarn is soft and comfy too, not scratchy. Thanks Lauren!
